An Italian startup’s guide to its first UK B2B customers
B2B marketing consultant | EN/IT/DE
Define a UK customer segment, adapt your proof and sales journey, and run a focused test before expanding the budget. The aim is a small, inspectable plan that your team can improve as evidence arrives.
Choose a narrow entry point
Define the UK companies most likely to benefit from the product today. Consider the use case, size, existing process, and buying trigger. Build a target-account list and test whether you can identify the relevant buying roles. An ambitious country-level revenue target is less useful at this stage than a plausible route to the first conversations.
Make the value understandable in English
Rewrite the offer around the buyer’s operational problem. Check industry terminology and explain the outcome without relying on domestic brand recognition. An Italian case study can be useful when the context is comparable. State the customer situation, what was done, and the limits of the result instead of presenting it as a forecast.
Prepare the commercial journey
Decide who will answer enquiries, demonstrate the product, and support implementation. Make response language and availability clear. Review contractual, tax, and data-handling questions with the appropriate specialists for the actual transaction. Avoid committing to local delivery or support capabilities that are not in place.
Learn from opportunities, not just traffic
Track the first enquiries through qualification and progression. Record why buyers decline or stall. Set a test budget and review point suited to the product’s sales cycle. If the segment responds but the offer does not progress, investigate the objections before expanding to more industries or channels.
Turn the guide into a working document
Write down the audience, the decision you are testing, the evidence you have, and the person responsible for the next action. Add a review date appropriate to the sales cycle. Treat any budget or timeline as a planning assumption until your own results support it.
